17 - Rob Kuntz's Residence (King's Castle)
334 Madison Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147
Rob Kuntz's home during the late 1960s and 1970s, living in the upstairs apartment. Rob was a local kid growing up in the care of neighbor guardians and his aunt during his mother's hospitalization. In 1968 he met Gary Gygax, who took him under his wing and shared his love of games. Rob would co-found the Castle & Crusade Society (C&C Society) with Gary, a club dedicated to Medieval history and war gaming. They soon began organizing the group with Medieval sounding titles based on participation. Gary would style himself as the Earl of Walworth, investing Rob as titular head of the society, King Robert I. The group would test play the rules that would become Chainmail by Gary Gygax and Jeff Perren, including the Fantasy Supplement that allowed for fantasy battles between heroes, wizards, and mythical creatures. Much of these fantasy rules would find their way into Dungeons & Dragons. Rob's home served as the C&C Society Headquarters for much of its existence, was the site of many LGTSA war games and late night sessions of Dungeons & Dragons, including the legendary Sturmgeschutz & Sorcery game, where World War II, German soldiers stumble through a shroud of fog into the fantasy domain of a powerful wizard and his monstrous minions! Rob became an author and game designer in his own right, co-authoring the D&D Supplement Greyhawk with Gary, penning dozens of role-playing game adventures, writing fiction, and creating award winning game designs.
