Gary Gygax Memorial Bench Dedication

The Gygax Memorial Fund cordially invites you to the dedication ceremony of a new park bench dedicated in memory of E. Gary Gygax Co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons and NY Times Best Selling Author.

The ceremony will be held on Gary Gygax's birthday, Thursday, July 27th, at 2 pm.

Invitees include Gygax family members, friends, former TSR employees, The City of Lake Geneva Mayor and other officials, press, fans, and the general public

The park bench dedication site is located in the City of Lake Geneva at the far west end of Elm Park (aka, Library Park) right near The Shore Path.

The bench is located in the spot where Gary once sat, dreaming of one day living in Stone Manor and writing fantasy novels of his own. Gary realized this dream in the mid-1980s, living in the actual mansion and writing the fantasy books that would make him a NY Times Best Selling Author several times over.

Gen Con 50 Gary Gygax Tribute Plaque Presentation

In keeping with the GMF's goal of educating the public about Gary's historic contributions to the gaming industry, we will be presenting a plaque, concept by Alex Gygax and rendering by fantasy artist Larry Elmore, at the opening ceremonies of Gen Con 50 at the Indiana Convention Center. As many may already know, Gary was the creator of Gen Con, which he started by himself 50 years ago in the basement of his home. Today Gen Con is the world's largest gaming convention. Please join us at the Gen Con 50 opening ceremonies, where Gary's widow Gail Gygax, along with Gary's sons Alex Gygax and Luke Gygax will make the plaque presentation with a speech by Alex Gygax. Hope to see you there!

The plaque inscription reads as follows:

E. Gary Gygax-Founder. In 1968 game inventor Gary Gygax held the first Gen Con in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin at Horticultural Hall. Through the years Gary led millions of men and women on a journey of mutual respect and friendship, all through the guise of a game. Today families continue to join together each year at Gen Con "The Best Four Days in Gaming."

"I want to be remembered as the guy who loved to game." Gary Gygax

Presented 2017 by the Gygax Memorial Fund.
