36 - Grand Geneva Resort
7036 Grand Geneva Way, Lake Geneva, WI 53147
Opened in 1968, the Lake Geneva Playboy Club created quite the stir in the small town of Lake Geneva. Intended to serve the wealthy elite vacationing here from Chicago, it even had its own airport. The Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired building came complete with an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, restaurant, and a ski lounge laid out in the shape of two overlapping snowflakes. The grounds offered two golf courses and a lake in the shape of the famous Playboy Bunny logo. Of course, the place was staffed by beautiful women dressed in the signature corset, bunny ears, and fluffy white tail. In 1977 the club's convention facilities were host to Gen Con X. To say the least, the attendees, which included mostly young men, were very enthusiastic about this arrangement! Ultimately, TSR didn't think it reflected their values as a family game company, making it the first and last Gen Con held at the Playboy Club. In recent years, it reopened as the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and, since 2016, has played host to Gary Con, the memorial game convention dedicated to the memory of Gary Gygax.
